Base Running Speed & Technique Program (4-Week Series)
Delivered by a Running & Strength & Conditioning Coach
This 4-week training series introduces baseball players to the foundations of effective running mechanics for base running. Across weekly 60-minute sessions, athletes will learn how to move more efficiently, understand how speed is developed, and build the foundations of effective base running.
Program Focus
Developing foundational sprint mechanics specific to baseball
Learning how to warm up effectively using short, targeted “micro-dosed” running drills
Building understanding of force production and how it contributes to speed
Improving movement awareness to support acceleration, transitions, and running efficiency
What to Expect
This program is an introduction to speed development, not a quick-fix performance boost. Athletes should not expect major improvements in speed over the 4 weeks. Instead, the focus is on:
Learning how to train speed properly
Gaining drills and concepts that can be used independently
Building movement habits for long-term development in baseball
Why It Matters for Baseball
Effective base running relies on how well athletes can produce and apply force in short bursts, transition efficiently, and execute movement with sound mechanics—not just how fast they are.
Session Structure (60 mins)
Movement-based warm-up
Micro-dose sprint drill progressions
Technique development (acceleration & running mechanics)
Application to base running scenarios (including competitive or game-based activities to reinforce learning)
